Feature Friday: Nathan's 1985 Shelby Charger
This week: Nathan Christian from Lee's Summit, MO and his 1985 Dodge Shelby Charger.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I'm an 18 year old senior in high-school with a passion for cars and photography.
Tell us about your car: My car is a 1985 Dodge Shelby Charger. Almost all original aside from the rims (16 inch Enkei aftermarket). (I have the stock 15 inch "pepperoni" rims in my shed!) It has a 2.2 liter turbocharged engine producing roughly 145 hp / 175 tq sent to the front wheels through a 5 speed manual transmission. 57,000 original miles!
How did you come to own your car? I bought my car from an estate sale of a woman whose
husband recently passed away. He had 3 Corvettes and this '85 Shelby Charger. I found the ad in the newspaper and thought it would be cool to go and look around, little did I know that I'd be taking home a car from Carroll Shelby's Mopar years!
What do you like to do with your car? I take my car to lots of local shows. Independence
Cruise Nights, Fast Fridays, and the previous Street Car Takeover to name a few.
What has been your favorite part about owning your car? My favorite part about owning my car has got to be the unique factor. Most people have no clue what it is and it's fun to educate people about a rare piece of Shelby history. Most people think it's a Foxbody Mustang, for good reason.
What has your car taught you? This car has taught me a lot about myself. Weird cars bring a lot of hate and this car is included. Most people think that a FWD four cylinder car from the '80s is terrible, but a bit of Carroll Shelby magic, and boom, a sporty turbocharged hatchback was born. This car outran 5.0 Mustangs and Z28 Camaros brand new! It also taught me how to drive stick. I mean, what teenage boy doesn't
want a 5 speed manual sports car?
