Feature Friday: Ian Sumner and his '05 Saab 9-2X Aero
January 16, 2015
Each Friday, we will feature a different fan and their car(s) on our website, FromCityToCircuit.com. Respond to our Q&A (click here), send us a high-quality photo of you and your car, along with any additional shots of your vehicle, and we'll post our favorites — one each Friday. Please send your responses and photos to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week: Ian Sumner from Louisville, Kentucky and his 2005 Saab 9-2X Aero.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I am 27 years old and work for CarMax. I spend weekends helping friends modify their cars and get ready for autocross.
Tell us about your car: I drive a 2005 Saab 9-2X Aero with a JDM Ver7 STI engine swap, 6 speed STI transmission swap, VF30 turbocharger, 3 port boost controller, 3” Cat-Back exhaust, JDM ECU tuned for 93 octane on 20 psi of boost and 8200 rpm redline.
How did you come to own your car? I bought the car two years ago in the summer and had it shipped from New Jersey at the time. I liked the WRX wagons and came across this and liked it since it was different and you don’t see them everyday.
What do you like to do with your car? It is used as my daily driver, but I also go to occasional car meets and club events. I plan on autocrossing it in 2015.
What has been your favorite part about owning your car? One of my favorite parts has been the varied reactions it gets and the questions that ensue. The 9-2X community is not very large and is scattered across the world, but owners congregate on Saab92x.com and they are easy to get along with, unlike many other forums.
What has your car taught you? To keep money in your savings account for when things break because they can get expensive fast. And, AWD always wins in snow.
Anything else you'd like to add? Future plans involve a larger turbo, 1000cc injectors, E85 and some suspension work. And, don’t always go for something everyone recognizes and likes — just enjoy your car.
